27th Shared Service of Thanksgiving
Tuesday, November 24 @ 730pm – University Synagogue
Join us for our 27th annual Thanksgiving Service with our friends from University Synagogue. We will be led by the Rev. Dr. Paul Tellstrom and Rabbi Arnie Rachlis, and our guest speaker will be Sir Bruno Serato, a CNN Hero, who will speak on “Feeding the Kids In America.”
Everyone is being asked to bring packages of dry pasta and canned tomato sauce and/or tomato paste to support Mr. Serato’s anti-hunger project. The preferable brand is Barilla because the Barilla Corporation is a major supporter of Mr. Serato’s charitable work.
In 2005, Bruno Serato and his mother, Caterina, visited the Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim down the street from his Anaheim White House restaurant, where his mother noticed that there was a 6-year old boy eating potato chips for dinner, because his family couldn’t afford a proper meal. She insisted that Bruno make some pasta for the child. They soon realized that there were many more of these hungry “motel children,” so Bruno began making pasta for 72 children, 5 nights a week, giving birth to their program “Feeding the Kids in America.” Bruno Serato is the only chef in the world serving 1200 underprivileged children warm dinners every night. Named one of CNN’s 10 Heroes of the Year and featured in People, Elle, Vogue and Riviera magazines, as well as on CBS Evening News, CNN, Univision, NY Times, LA Times and OC Register, Serato was honored on the steps of the US Capitol with a humanitarian award. Perhaps his highest honor was being knighted by the Italian Government, earning him the title, Sir Bruno Serato. Today, he continues to run his successful Italian steakhouse and extends his generosity to many other nonprofits besides Caterina’s Club.
This year we celebrate this special service at the University Synagogue.
