IUCC EVENTS
Wayward Soles
Pastor Craig is supporting The Wayward Artist by collecting new and slightly worn shoes. These shoes ultimately get shipped to developing nations where they support struggling communities by providing jobs and economic growth. Almost everyone has old shoes in their closets they never wear. There will be a collection box at IUCC over the next 60-days. Please just throw your shoes inside. If you think you can collect a whole bag of 25 pairs, see Pastor Craig. He has some prizes for you!

True Believer - Screening
"True Believer" Screening with Panel Discussion event!
Join us at Irvine United Congregational Church for a screening of “True Believer” on Tuesday, September 24 at 6:00pm, followed by a discussion and refreshments. Tickets are $15.
For over 40 years, the Religious Right in the US has proclaimed a patriarchal, anti-LGBTQ gospel, from cross-engraved-pulpits to bunting-laced podiums. “True Believer” explores the origins of this movement, weaving together the larger political intentions at play with Kristen Irving’s story of her own experience within a family deeply committed to their evangelical community. Kristen’s personal story will resonate with many persons who have either found their way out of the evangelical church or have become deeply uncomfortable within it. The details about how this movement was launched will be revealing for many who assume that it was simply a grassroots movement, or “a work of the Spirit.”

Youth Movie Night & Queer Theology
Youth Movie Night & Queer Theology
June 30, 5:00 PM
Wisdom Room
For IUCC Youth, we're closing out Pride Month with a discussion on queer theology and a screening of the 2018 teen rom-com, Love, Simon.
Synopsis: Everyone deserves a great love story, but for 17-year-old Simon Spier, it's a little more complicated. He hasn't told his family or friends that he's gay, and he doesn't know the identity of the anonymous classmate that he's fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying and life-changing.

Mitzvah Mingle
As part of our growing friendship with University Synagogue, they’ve cordially invited us to participate in their Mitzvah Mingle event on Sunday, June 23, from 10am to 12pm. While they realize it’s happening during our usual Sunday services, they hope some of our congregants will be able to participate. This is a really great opportunity to join them in a hands-on activity to benefit Orange County nonprofits.

Diversity Dinner
DIVERSITY DINNER!
June 22 at 5:00pm
Abyssinia Restaurant (2801 W Ball Rd, Anaheim, CA 92804)
We have eaten at this Ethiopian restaurant a number of times and have always enjoyed both the food and the hospitality. Easy to eat vegetarian there, but they have many of the famous Ethiopian meat dishes as well.
If you haven't had Ethiopian food before, you'll be introduced to their unique bread, called injera, that is made with teff flour. Teff is a remarkable grain, one of the earliest domesticated plants, and is high in protein, fiber, and minerals. It's also gluten free. What makes it really fun is that one uses it to pick up the food on the platter, not unlike using a pita.
Let us know if you plan to join us and if you'll be bringing anyone else with you. We'll also have this in one of the weekly e-blasts from IUCC. We'll also have a sign-up sheet on the patio on upcoming Sundays.
(They'll give you a fork if you like; no questions asked!)

Heartbreak and Healing: WHO Gaza Mission Doctors' Speaking Tour
Join us on Tuesday, June 18, from 7-9pm in Plumer Hall, to hear from a team of local medical professionals who just returned from Gaza.
These doctors and nurses volunteered to be part of a World Health Organization sponsored medical mission to the Gaza Strip. For nearly 3 weeks they treated the sick and wounded at the European General Hospital in Khan Younis. During that time, they witnessed firsthand the horrors of the ongoing war in Gaza and the tremendous suffering and loss of life, particularly of children; at the same time, they saw the resilience and perseverance that characterized the people they encountered there. This heart wrenching experience has had a profound impact on them. As a result, they have decided to share their eyewitness accounts with the broader public. IUCC is honored to welcome them.

The Southern California Nevada Conference Annual Gathering
So much has changed in the church and the world since we last gathered in-person at The Southern California Nevada Conference. As the Annual Gathering Planning Committee began to focus on the upcoming Annual Gathering scheduled for June, it was clear that it was important that this be a time to share stories of change and challenge, but most of all, Stories of Resilience. Stories of how churches, and the Conference have adapted, reimagined ministry, and are transitioning into new models of what it means to be and do church as disciples and followers of Christ. And so when we gather at Chapman University, storytelling and Stories of Resilience will be center stage as we celebrate how we have been challenged to change, grow and be the church in the midst of challenge and change.
