MINISTRY WITH
YOUNG PEOPLE
A Welcoming and Loving Community
All families and youth of all ages are welcome!
At MYP, we celebrate the beautiful diversity of God’s world. We are proudly open and affirming, embracing every gender expression, cultural background, and range of abilities as vital to God’s Creation.
Rooted in Jesus’ vision of building a more just kin-dom for all, we strive to be a community where compassion, curiosity, and respect guide everything we do.
MYP is a space where young people can show up as their authentic selves, build meaningful friendships, explore faith and life’s big questions, and discover their unique gifts. Our goal is for every young person to feel valued and empowered.
At MYP, young people and families are not just accepted but truly welcomed!

Share the Joy of Reading!
Do you have children's books looking for a new home? MYP invites you to donate any new or gently used, to help put meaningful stories into the hands of young readers in our community. Donations can be dropped off in Plumer Hall, where we do Sunday School at the church.
Check below for our wishlist of children’s books! And thank you for helping us spread literacy, learning, and love—one book at a time.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
MYP is an affirming, inclusive community where compassion and respect form the foundation of our mission. We honor the diverse identities of each youth or child, importantly including respect for their names and pronouns. This is a safe space and loving environment, where we prioritize consent, listen to boundaries, and embrace an open and affirming stance towards all gender expressions and identities, sexual orientations, cultural backgrounds, abilities, and beliefs.
Our mission is to provide a nurturing space for youth to explore their faith, learn and enjoy Bible stories, make lasting bonds, and be empowered to express themselves in words, deeds, art, sports, or beyond. We encourage questions, recognizing that not all answers are known, and perspectives may differ.
Between Sunday School, our Youth Group Events, our Young Adult Events, and more, MYP is a place for youth of all ages to be!

Firstly, always feel free to check in with our team if you’re new! See our staff team below for reference on Sundays, or feel free to reach out to us beforehand at MYP@iucc.org or Rachel@iucc.org.
Sunday Service
We start with music to signal the service is about to start. We sometimes stand (in body or in spirit) for certain songs such as the Welcome song or the Giving song. There are hymnal books at the chairs and the words are on the screen or lead by our performers. Words can be found on the TV screens, audio equipment for hearing is available in the back. Wiggles and noises are more than welcome at our multi-generational church!
"The Fresh Word" - is a recorded children's time moment usually about 15 minutes into the service. Kids and youth are then escorted to Plumer Hall for Sunday School. All are welcome to stay throughout the service. We then usually do another song, prayers of the people, collection, and then a core activity (sermon, discussion, performance!). To wrap up, there's typically a benediction and ending song!
For adults and parents, you can learn more here about visiting IUCC for the first time!
Communion (available every 1st Sunday)
ALL are invited to take a piece of bread and (grape) juice. When possible, we bring children and youth back who want to return so they can take communion with their family.
Sunday School (available during both services)
Progressive Christian values & social justice stress God's love, asking questions, and compassion. Interactive lessons include roleplay, art, music, discussion, cooking, & more. Our Curriculum is adapted from Illustrated Ministry, and tailored further by Pastor Rachel.
(“What's Progressive Christianity...?”)
Kids and youth are escorted to Sunday School (in Plumer Hall) after the "Fresh Word" segment during service. We usually start with a group welcome, then typically split into age groups, depending on the lesson of the day.
(Learn more about Sunday School.)
Class Groups
Toddlers (Pre-K) will go with our care attendant.
Mini Squad (K-2nd) will split off with one teacher
Older (3rd+) will split off with the other.
Lessons often include an introduction time (name, age, usually a question for the day), a circle time (Bible story, questions, discussion) and then an activity (story, crafts, games, roleplay, etc.)
High School youth are welcome to join and engage or support younger kids as they desire!
Caregivers can pick up their youth after the service either at the Playground or at Plumer Hall.
Child Care (available during both services)
Our child care attendant (typically Ms. Priya) can be found either in Plumer Hall (the other dome) in our toddler room, or in her room at the preschool (large middle building on campus).
You can drop your toddler off early before service, bring them after the Fresh Word, etc., but please make sure to check them in and get you both a name tag!
All Gender Restrooms
Two are available in Plumer Hall and another in the big glass room on the left side of the narthex (the “Peace” Room). They're "single user" but nice and large, for better accessibility and needs.
Quiet / "Cry" Room
A room where you can hear the service and see inside, but you can control the lights and sounds. Open to all and especially for babies and toddlers. Found on the left side of the narthex (the lobby area) there is. A great place if you need a bit more space or sound space than the regular pews. Books and small toys can be found in there as well to entertain.
Diaper Changing
We have diaper changing stations in the all gender restrooms in Plumer Hall and in both the men’s and women’s restrooms in the Sanctuary (in the hallway, off the right side of the narthex).

Yes! We have a strong, connected group of Young Adults and a variety of YA events that we gather for twice or thrice monthly, such as brunch, bowling, book clubs, hikes, trivia nights, game nights, and more!
-
Yes! We currently have two Youth Groups, one for ages 9-14, and one for 15-18, roughly depending on the different age groups of children attending our church. We have several events each month for each group, between picnics, Parents’ Nights Out, service opportunities, and more to foster connection, growth, and belonging among their peers.
Above, you’ll also find a list of some major seasonal programs, festivals, liturgical holiday services, summer camps, and more which invite or involve the youth of IUCC! It’s. ahigh priority for us that programming for our children extends beyond Sundays, and deeply engages the many important avenues of youth learning and development.
Learn more about our Youth Groups here.
Contact us at MYP@iucc.org or our director at Rachel@iucc.org for more info on any of our major seasonal events!

Open Door Policy - Come Visit!
Caregivers are always welcome to visit during Sunday School! We value transparency and participation.
The Two People / Buddy Supervision System
We aim to have two adults at all times during Sunday School when possible. When not possible, there is a supervising adult that comes in and supervises over multiple sites. We further aim for the upper standard of two specifically non-related adults to be extra secure.
School & Carpooling
Please see the official Safe Church Policy above for a full explanation.
Medical Conditions / Allergies
Please let us know when possible if there are medical conditions or allergies we should be aware of.
We avoid using nuts (peanuts and tree nuts) as part of our activities.
First Aid / Ouch Report
Our First Aid Kit can be found in the Youth Room in a plastic tub right by the door. Incident reports are filled out if there is a significant stop to class activity that warranted medical attention/ first aid. (Ouch Report link, for reference)
Emergency/Evacuation Meeting Zone
This is in the parking lot behind Plumer Hall.
If we need to evacuate, and it is safe to do so, we will bring children to the parking lot area behind Plumer Hall (closer to the Woodbridge Village Association building).
Training & Live Scan
Volunteers that do 16 hours per month or 32 hours per year, per AB 506 (Law Text) complete Mandatory Reporter training and undergo a livescan background check. Recommended for all volunteers. (https://mandatedreporterca.com/)
