In addition to the upcoming Presidential election and a variety of other races, California voters will also have an important task ahead: reviewing and voting on several state propositions. Whether you appreciate them or not, these propositions will be on the ballot.
This election season, we will be considering ten propositions. Five have been placed on the ballot by the Legislature, while the remaining five were added through signature collection efforts organized by various groups and individuals—likely the same ones who approached you outside your local grocery store.
To help navigate these issues, the Advocates for Peace & Justice will host an informational session on Sunday, October 6 at 10:45 a.m. The session will include detailed explanations of each proposition, as well as a grid showing which organizations or political parties support or oppose each measure. These materials, developed by Keith Boyum, Professor Emeritus of Political Science, will be available on the IUCC website for easy reference.
Why October 6? Although it may seem early, California will begin mailing out ballots on October 7, and with mail-in voting, the election period effectively begins then. No longer do we have a single election day; instead, we enter an election season.
Join us on October 6 for a robust discussion. Please note that IUCC does not take a position on any of the propositions or candidates.
