The OC BIPOC + AAPI Mindfulness Meditation Group is a community where all ‘self-identified’ black, Indigenous, Asian American Pacific Islanders and people of color are invited to practice in a safe and welcoming space together. Every other Wednesday, we will gather to meditate together and share teachings focused on love, wisdom, and liberation. Our practice is strengthened when we meditate in community. Let’s sit together, breathe together, and share in what brings each of us into presence. There will be a meditation with some guidance, followed by a short talk and dialogue. The meditation will be facilitated by Elizabeth Stomp, a certified meditation teacher with Insight LA.

Allies are also welcome.

DEI has scheduled its next diversity dinner at Ma's House in Laguna Hills. The restaurant is a halal Chinese place owned by Uyghurs from NW China. Some call the region East Turkestan instead of Xinjiang. The meal also brings attention to Islam/halal and the oppression of this minority in China while eating what is mostly typical Chinese restaurant food (but halal!).

DEI is pleased to announce that KRISTIN "KRIS" ERICKSON Orange Unified School District, Governing Board Member, Trustee Area 5 will speak and invite discussion with our DEI ministry on Sunday July 23th 1-2:30pm.

She will  discuss the impact of the school board election results last year, which has resulted in a more conservative/MAGA perspective for school leadership.  She will discuss how this has impacted the schools with regards to curriculum, banned books and inclusion for marginalized groups.  Kris Erickson will discuss what has changed and what they are doing to fight back.

IUCC's DEI Ministry is proud to have Roger Gawne as our speaker on zoom June 25th, 2023 from 1-2:30pm. Roger will present on the subject of pronouns.

Roger Gawne (he/him) came out as a queer trans man in March of 2016, and has dedicated himself to social justice activism in the years since. He has run LGBT+ focused clubs in his schools, and organized several events for the community, including the 2021 Santa Monica Queer Prom and the 2023 UCLA Queer Prom. He has volunteered as a facilitator with the CCEJ since 2018, focusing primarily on racial justice. He has collaborated with the Church in Ocean Park several times, including speaking at multiple services, particularly in Trans Day of Visibility services. Roger is currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, with a minor in queer studies, at UCLA.
